As part of the former city fortifications, the city gate with attached gatehouse was built after 1200. As a monument of urban development, it has been a listed building for many years and is part of the historic city complex. "Chiten" was first mentioned as a place in Geithain in 1186. Among the oldest buildings Geithains include the city wall, the Powder Tower, the St. Nicholas Church on the Kirchberg, the parish building with courtyard wall and retaining wall to the promenade and the city gate.As part of the former city fortifications, the city gate with its gatehouse built after 1200 was built. It has been a listed monument of urban planning for many years and is part of the historic city center. For the first time in Geithain 1186 with "Chiten" was mentioned as a place. In 1209 Geithain acquired city rights.The city once had four city gates. Only the generally known as "city gate" or "gatehouse" gate is obtained. But there are other names: Altenburgertor, Niedertor, Untertor.
