After work began on the Leipzig-Hof railway line in 1841 and the inauguration of the 28.73 km long Altenburg-Crimmitschau section on March 15, 1844, Crimmitschau already had a simple train station. The Leipzig-Hof line was completed in 1851. After the opening of the new station in 1873, which is characterized by its representative architectural style, they were still used as apartments for railway employees, and one of the buildings now houses a restaurant.

As early as 1913, the reception hall was extended with a porch and thus received its current appearance.

In the GDR, the station was given great importance. At times up to 130 people were employed on or at the railway facilities in Crimmitschau. Alongside the city center, the station district was one of the busiest places. At the end of 2001, the ticket office and thus the entire building were closed. It is now a listed building.

Two passenger elevators were installed by 2011.

With the commissioning of the City Tunnel in Leipzig in December 2013, the station was integrated into the new S-Bahn Central Germany network. It is served every two hours by the S5 line (Zwickau–Leipzig–Halle) and every hour by the express line S5X (Zwickau–Leipzig–Halle).

Beautiful building. While other railway buildings in the district are being demolished, this one is receiving more attention through renovation.
