Founded at the end of the 19th century by Father Buguet, the parish priest of the village, this site has become an essential place of prayer for the deceased. Throughout the year, the sanctuary welcomes thousands of pilgrims from all over the world. Over time, it has become a leading center for all questions concerning the afterlife and eschatology.
Built at the edge of the forest, the Basilica of Our Lady of Liberation of Montligeon, elevated to the status of a minor basilica in 1928, overlooks the surrounding plain with its two spires.
