The Monument White Peak on the Hühnerberg near Penig reminds of the battles over the penitentiary Penig from 4.-9. October 1813, a few days before the well-known Battle of Leipzig from October 16 to 19, 1813, during which Napoleon's troops were decisively defeated by the allied Prussians, Austria, Russia, and Sweden.
In Penig, as part of the advance of the Austrian troops coming from Bohemia under Prince Schwarzenberg their vanguard under General Moor,
on the Polish corps of Marshal Poniatowsky.
The latter fought on the side of Napoleon and was to cover the French corps of Napoleon's brother-in-law, Marshal Joachim Murat, further east at Zschopau.
There were heavy firefights between the Austrians standing on the Galgenberg on the southern bank of the Mulden and the Poles on the Hühnerberg on the north bank.
Until October 9, 1813, 1,200 soldiers from both sides were killed or wounded.
At 3 o'clock in the afternoon the battles were stopped and Napoleon revealed the penitentiary Penig.

Interesting monument between Penig and America 👍

Monument commemorating the battles of the Mulde crossing. Much more interesting, however, is the impressive view over Penig from up there.
