The "Ascension Church" left Tsar Vasily III. to thank for the birth of his son Ivan (later called the Terrible). In 1532 the church was officially opened. This was one of the first Russian churches with a tent roof built of stone.
In 1994, UNESCO added the Ascension Church to the World Heritage List.
