Throughout the former training area, remains of ammunition (see my posted pictures in the highlight) can often be found in fields and forests.

If you find any live handgun cartridges, you should carefully place them in a safe, lockable container and hand them in at the nearest police station.

As a rule, these cartridges can be transported safely.

But if you want to be absolutely sure, you can also contact the police directly.

In the early 1990s, the then large wetland was used intensively as a military training area by the US Army. Most of the area was used as a training area for tracked vehicles until the so-called Panzerstraße was built and more practiced in the peripheral areas. In the central area of the area, surrounded by a double security fence, stood several military buildings in the midst of sealed areas and access routes, and in a section for patriot rocket launchers, ramparts were built up.

In autumn 2006 the American armed forces stopped their exercises in the area and handed over the use to the Federal Republic of Germany.

The military installations - fences, launching ramps, ruins of the military buildings and seals - were demolished and disposed of in 2009/10, the embankments and ramparts were preserved.

For the central area, the former missile station, an eco-point measures concept was drawn up in 2009 on behalf of the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks, Federal Forests division. The measures were carried out together with the renaturation of the tank ramps and recognized as a preliminary replacement measure by the UNB of the Wetterau district.

The entire open land area (approx. 15 hectares) has been leased to a shepherd since spring 2007, who moves his flock over the areas.
