Because of its strategically important position, the Plamort plateau on the border between Austria and Italy was particularly important for Italy during World War II. The construction of a fortification began in 1938 and was almost completely completed in the same year. In the center of the facility there is an approx. 500 meter long anti-tank barrier that extends over almost the entire level. This was built with larch wood piles that are between half a meter and one meter high and embedded in a concrete foundation. In addition, the piles were encased with concrete and a metal tip was attached (source: Wikipedia)
