In 1908, the Effeld chapel building association asked the Cologne Vicariate General for building permission for its own church. Permission was granted and the foundation stone was laid on May 26, 1909. On September 18, 1910, the new church was designated by the pastor Christian Joseph Peters from Steinkirchen. The plans for this single-nave church with a semicircular apse in the homeland security style come from the Cologne architect Edmund Renard.
