Tips

  • The church is a plain brick building with buttresses and a rib vaulted choir with a 5/8 closure. The nave is not vaulted, but closed with a wooden ceiling from the 19th century following the construction of the gable roof. Today's church building with its basic forms from 1595 is similar to the Gothic brick church of St. Laurentius built in 1595 in Ziethen near Ratzeburg. The tower in the west on a foundation of granite boulders dates from 1805 in its current form; with a half-timbered top, it also has a gabled roof and does not protrude much beyond the ridge of the nave of the choir and nave. For a long time, the village church in Pokrent was regarded as the first post-Reformation village church in Mecklenburg; the date of its construction was 1595. Studies of the processing of the roof truss and dendrochronological results have, however, been able to prove in recent years that the church is much older: the oldest oak wood in the roof of the nave was felled in 1405 and the completely preserved roof truss of the chancel can be dated back to 1390 to be dated. A single beam, 6 m long and decorated with a honeycomb-like pattern, which was apparently used twice in the roof structure of the nave, can even be dated to 1200 and thus to a time before the church village was first mentioned.Source and further detailed information:de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorfkirche_Pokrent

  • The Pokrenter Church looks nice, but it was never open when I was there. The houses across the street are also looking good. There was once a restaurant in the corner house, but it was many years ago. The entire village always makes a very well-kept impression.
