The Cathedral of San Pietro Apostolo, also known as the Duomo di Treviso, is the city's main place of worship.Built around the 11th century, it stands on the foundations of an early Christian temple, traces of which remain in Via delle Canoniche. It was almost completely destroyed in the mid-18th century, only to be rebuilt according to a design by Giordano Riccati in the Neoclassical style. The majestic façade was created with a wide staircase supporting an imposing pronaos of six Ionic columns, a pronaos resembling ancient Greek and Roman temples in form and style.
