The museum is intended to be a memorial to the dying profession of the woodcutter and life back then. It is run by the museum association "Historisches Mürzsteg und Holzknechtleben". In the museum there are not only exhibits from the life of the forest workers, but also many items of everyday life, such as household items, carpentry tools, woodturning tools and reforestation equipment.
