In 2017, with the support of the Flemish Community and the municipality of Grobbendonk, Natuurpunt was able to purchase the Molenbos from the d'Ursel family and thus secure a 60 ha domain in one fell swoop. Due to additional purchases, the Molenbos has now grown into a large nature reserve of more than 70 ha. The area immediately forms an important ecological link between two other large nature reserves that are within walking distance: Lovenhoek and Schupleer.
