Dronningholm Slot was a medieval castle on a fjord in North Zealand, which later became today's Arresø. The beginnings of the system go back to Valdemar the store. The castle was completed in 1200 by Valdemar Sejr.
The castle went up in flames in 1525 and in 1557 the building material was used for the construction of Frederiksborg Slot in Hillerød.

Hiking

Dronningholm was originally on a spar, which lay in a small bay, which cuts into the Auderød peninsula. The original castle was built around 1200, but the first written sources date back to 1342, when Albrecht Moltke received the burd as a fief from King Valdemar Atterdag. In the following years the castle had different owners. In the 16th century Dronningholm lost its importance as a fortress and decayed. 1557 fik Poul Huitfeldt the permission to remove stones and wooden parts.
