The current city hall is already the fourth in the city. A previous one was even on top of the bridge over Maas. In 1783, the city council moved into the former palace of the Prince-Bishop of Liège. The building burned down in 1914 but was rebuilt in its original state after the war. In the courtyard are the monument to the fallen from both world wars and also a work of art in glass that is an ode to the saxophone and the Meuse.

The current town hall was first occupied as such in 1763. The prestigious building had previously been owned by the prince-bishops, who had to sell it due to debts.

The most interesting façade (first half of the 17th century) shows the town hall facing the Meuse, which still retains its defensive features.

Since 2014, the town hall's inner courtyard has housed the "Clepsydra of Monsieur Sax." This is a glass work created by master glassmaker Bernard Tirtiaux to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the inventor of the saxophone.
