"Preußensteg" near Bad Kissingen, where the Prussians succeeded in crossing the Franconian Saale in the Battle of Kissingen on July 10, 1866.

To prevent the Prussians from crossing the Saale, the stone Ludwig Bridge was barricaded. The remaining Saale crossings broke off the Bavarians. However, the support beams on the footbridge above the Lindesmühle were left in the water.

Parts of the Prussian units managed to cross here at noon on July 10, 1866, after they had torn out tables, benches and doors from the Villa Vay (later Hotel Belvedere) and placed them over the supporting beams that were still there.

House-to-house fighting ensued along Kurhausstrasse. The fighting in and around the spa gardens was particularly vehement.

Since then, the Lindesmühl-Steg has been popularly known as the Preussensteg. The "grave of the dead Prussia" (on the other side of the Saale) commemorates all those who fell who died and whose names are not known.

One of many bridges that leads over the Saale, but which is highlighted by a memorial stone and plaque.
