A clinic has existed on the grounds of Hubertusburg Castle since 1837. The former state hospital was greatly expanded from 1893 and turned into a sanatorium and nursing home for the mentally ill. During this time, several new wells and the water tower were built, which, in its function as a water reservoir, should ensure the independent, central water supply of the extensive system. The striking, red brick building is designed in the typical historicist forms of the late 19th century. It is divided into an octagonal base storey made of quarry stone and brick and a slender, round tower shaft, between which a cornice slightly exposed over brick consoles mediates. The tower shaft is kept simple and unadorned - narrow, staggered slotted windows provide light. The sloped container storey, which is windowed through by paired, tall rectangular windows, juts out over a hollow. It is closed off by a conical roof, the eaves edge of which has decorative wooden elements. As part of the former Hubertusburg sanatorium and nursing home, the water tower bears witness to the boom of this facility, which was important for Saxon hospital history, and the self-sufficient water supply of such a large clinic area at the end of the 19th century. It is therefore of architectural and technical historical value.

The Wermsdorf water tower in Wermsdorf is a historic building right next to the specialist clinic, which is directly adjacent to the Hubertusburg castle area.
