The Veluwemeer is named after the Veluwe landscape, a forest area in the province of Gelderland. The Veluwemeer is located between the provinces of Gelderland and Flevoland and is the largest of the Veluwerandzees, part of the former Zuiderzee. In the southwest the Veluwerandzees of Wolderwijd, Nuldernauw and Nijkerkernauw come together. In the north, the Veluwemeer is connected to the northernmost Veluwerandmeer, the Drontermeer. The IJsselmeer can be reached by water via both the northern and southern exits of the Veluwemeer.
