One of the 11 medieval field watchtowers in the town of Quedlinburg. The field watchtowers were built around 1300 to guard the Quedlinburg fields.
Named after the former village of Bicklingen, which was located in the immediate vicinity to the west of the watchtower.
Round tower made of sandstone and limestone blocks of the Leth tower type
Current height: 11.90 m, previously probably 16 - 18 m
Diameter: 4.80 - 5.00 m
Entrance height: 7 m
The entrance faces the village of Bicklingen and the town.
There was a direct line of sight to the watchman's room on the south tower of the market church.
The watchtower had been equipped with a tiled stove since 1462. In the 19th century, stone was repeatedly stolen from the watchtower, but this was repaired immediately.
In 1992/93, the heavily weathered watchtower was renovated and converted into an observation tower. The Wartenverein Quedlinburg e.V. has been maintaining the tower since 2005.
