In 1875 the well-known Berlin architect Martin Gropius was commissioned to plan a chapel in the Carolinenhain. The chapel was built from red brick and was therefore named “Red Chapel”. The chapel survived the war well, but a fallen tree later damaged the roof and the chapel fell into disrepair.
