The Kromme Nolkering is a flood lock located in the Heusdensch Canal between Heusden and Wijk en Aalburg. The lock was completed in 2002, after very high water levels occurred in 1995 and it turned out that the dikes along the Heusdensch Kanaal and the Dammed Maas offered insufficient protection. The barrier is closed at a water level of 3.42m +NAP, so that the water level in the Dammed Maas does not exceed 3.50m +NAP. The Rivierenland Water Board owns and manages this barrier.
