For Holsten-Bexten, the situation after the destruction of St. Cyriakus Church was the beginning of their own church.

On September 8, 1953, the new church, built from rubble stones, was consecrated.

The church was dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Klünersche Madonna

On March 6, 1945, many a work of art was destroyed in a bomb attack. But some of the treasures of our church have been preserved.

Even in the protection of a niche, the most famous gem of our church survived the bombing: the Klünersche Madonna. This wood-carved 75 cm high Gothic Madonna with the baby Jesus with crown and scepter was probably made at the beginning of the 15th century. After being on loan from 1977 to 1987 in the Diocesan Museum in Osnabrück, it was also restored in the Paderborn Ochsenfarth workshop as part of the major church renovation in 1987. Over the centuries, the Klünersche Madonna received seven layers of paint. During the restoration, the neo-Gothic version under a layer of paint was exposed and restored.

The image of Mary, which used to be venerated, was dressed by virgins in velvet and silk on Mary's feasts and carried along in the processions, decorated with wreaths.

The Klünersche Madonna has now found a secure place in the newly designed cave in the left aisle under the organ gallery.
