St. Peter's Church was founded in the 12th century as the fourth parish church in the old town of Braunschweig. The Gothic church with a 71-meter-high church tower has had a distinctive copper rooster on the top of the tower since 1971.
The first modest building fell victim to a city fire in 1256.
From 1260 onwards, a new basilica was built, of which only the west tower remains.

The tower and interior burned down in bomb attacks during the Second World War.

Since then, St. Peter's Church has no longer been used as a place of worship. From then on, the St. Peter's congregation also used St. James' Church. After the end of the war, St. Peter's Church was used as a storage facility for church and municipal cultural assets.

St. Peter's Church was restored from 1954 to 1959 and the interior was redesigned in the 1960s. The church tower was renovated from 2009 to 2011.

Founded in the 12th century. After being destroyed in World War II, the church was rebuilt between 1954 and 1959.

Unfortunately it was closed. What a pity.
