Castle in Zator - actually a palace, originally a prince's castle with defensive features from the 15th century, the seat of the Zator princes from the Upper Silesian Piast line, later starosts.
The castle was built as the headquarters of prince Wenceslas in the newly created Duchy of Zator in 1445. The prince's brothers helped financially in the construction. In 1477, the castle was described in connection with the division of the principality and probably it was still a rather modest building at that time.
In the second half of the 16th century, the castle was located in the Silesian poviat, Kraków voivodeship.
In 1778 it was purchased by the Dunin family and partially rebuilt with the addition of the second floor. Successive private owners of the palace and the Zator estate: Poniatowscy, Tyszkiewicz, Wąsowicz, Potocki.
In 1836, the Potocki family partially rebuilt and restored the palace according to the design of Franciszek Maria Lanci, giving it the form of a romantic neo-gothic residence.
In 1945, it was illegally taken from its rightful owners by the authorities of the Polish People's Republic. From 1946, it was the seat of the National Research Institute of Animal Production, recently the Fisheries Experimental Station.
In the years 1964-1973 it was completely restored. On the ground floor, richly decorated halls: hunting, gold, fern, ivy.
After the inheritance process, at the beginning of 2013, the castle was regained by the Potocki family.

Unfortunately, it was impossible to even enter the square in front of the castle. It was closed. Photos taken from behind the fence.
