The Arch of Peace in Milan is a nineteenth-century monument, built following the success of some temporary arches previously built. It is located in Piazza Sempione, where it is accompanied by two buildings on the sides that represent the toll booths of the arch, in operation when this square represented a gateway to the historic center.

The triumphal arch was commissioned to pay tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte. In the course of the gate's construction, however, Napoleon finally lost his influence after the defeat in Waterloo and so the gate was completed as the Peace Gate, in memory of the European Peace after the Congress of Vienna in 1815.
