Very beautiful and worth seeing church in the middle of the city.

For a small community like Wilster, the "stately brick building was oversized with 2,000 seats, following the example of the large, late-Baroque Protestant preaching churches developed in Hamburg and Altona, which can probably be explained by the Wilster citizens' claim to representation.

During the Second World War, the west building and the interior were damaged by bombs in 1944. In the years 1947-1954 and 1963/64 the damage was repaired, the number of places was reduced to 1200.

Today's St. Bartholomew's Church was built between 1775 and 1780 by Ernst Georg Sonnin, who also made a name for himself with the construction of the large Michaeliskirche in Hamburg. The steeple of the old church was integrated into the new building and raised by 4 meters to 52 meters in a masterpiece. Contrary to the old one, which was first mentioned in 1163, the new church was turned from the classic east-west axis into the longitudinal axis of the market square. St. Bartholomew's Church is the largest single-nave hall church in Schleswig-Holstein. The interior of the church is kept in the baroque tradition and impresses with its simplicity and brightness.
