The mirror ponds are located at the end of the Dieksee promenade in the forest area "Holm" in the immediate vicinity of the Dieksee. They got their name from the reflection of the trees in the calm and smooth water.
The mirror ponds were created on behalf of the Oldenburg Grand Duke Nikolaus Friedrich Peter, who wanted to breed noble fish here. For this purpose he set up a fish farm in the spring-rich area in 1869. The fish were raised in brooders and small fish ponds through which fresh spring water from the “Holm” forest area flowed. The fish should stay in these ponds connected by gullies and small streams until they were big enough to be transferred to the nearby Dieksee.
