Maiden Tower (Qız Qalası) – Baku

In the heart of the Old City (Icherisheher) stands this iconic 12th-century structure, approximately 30 meters tall. The tower is a UNESCO World Heritage site and shrouded in mystery and legend.

Inside, you'll find a small museum and guides available to answer questions and provide explanations. From the top, you'll enjoy stunning views of Baku and the Caspian Sea. An absolute must-see during a stroll through the Old City!

The Maiden's Tower (Azerbaijani Qız Qalası), also known as the Maiden's Bastion or Maiden's Tower in German, is located in the southeastern part of İçəri Şəhər (Itschäri Schähär), the old town of the Azerbaijani capital Baku, which is still partly walled today. It is probably part of the former city fortifications, the eastern section of which, to which the 29.5 meter high tower belonged, no longer exists. The tower, like the entire historic city center and the palace of the Shirvanshahs, has been classified by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site worthy of protection since 2000.
