The elongated Lago del Sambuco, in German "Sambuco Lake", is located in the Ticino municipality of Lavizzara. The reservoir is located above the village of Fusio in the Lavizzara Valley at 1,461 meters above sea level. The Lago del Sambuco is mainly fed by the Maggia, which flows out of the reservoir after the dam wall. The Sambucosee is about three kilometers long and 500 meters wide and has a maximum depth of a good hundred meters. The power plant is operated by the Maggia power plants.
