The Catholic Church of St. Johann Baptist is a late Gothic building, of which only the chancel and four tracery windows have survived. The massive unplastered tower is a landmark of Hagnau. It is 48 m high and still houses the original two bells from around 1400 and 1780.

The hall church was built on the foundations of its early Romanesque predecessor. The recessed, three-sided choir in the east of the nave, built in 1675, dates from the 15th century. The choir flanking tower, covered with a half-hipped roof, stands on the north wall of the choir. Its top floor houses the bell cage, in which hang seven church bells dating from the period between the 14th century and 1984.[1] The interior of the nave is covered by a flat ceiling, and that of the choir by a ribbed vault made of rabitz. The church furnishings include a high altar, on whose reredos the Ascension of Christ is depicted. In the southern side altar, donated by the Sebastian Brotherhood, stands a statue of Saint Sebastian by Christoph Daniel Schenck. The organ was built in 1903 by the Mönch Orgelbau company.
