At GP 82 the division of Vroenhoven stops in a Belgian and Dutch part and the division of Veldwezelt starts which is also divided in two. The Dutch wanted to keep a safe distance from the bastions around Maastricht and set a distance of 2400 m. because this corresponded to the firing distance of the cannons that were on the bastions. Existing municipal boundaries were not taken into account. That is why the border around Maastricht makes so many angular jumps.
