In 1968, Argentine artist Oscar Bony had a family pose as a ‘living sculpture’ on a pedestal. The performance, entitled La Familia Obrero (the working-class family), earned the family an amount that was higher than their monthly social security benefit. In the spirit of May ’68, Bony criticized the double standards of a government that saw the family as the cornerstone of society, but left the poor working class out in the cold.
