Bruach na Frithe Summit

Bruach na Frithe Summit

Recommended by 16 hikers

Bruach na Frithe’s summit is notable because, of the 11 Munros on Skye’s Black Cuillin, it vies with Sgùrr na Banachdich for the status of being the most straightforward to attain. This makes Bruach na Frithe a very popular option for those new to Skye and gives a taste of the Cuillin Ridge without the technical difficulty it is notorious for.

An amenable Black Cuillin summit boasting sensational views

Bruach na Frithe is one of the easier Munros in the Cuillin, giving hikers access to the crest without the trepidation involved with most outings on the famously challenging ridge. Its summit is regarded as one of the finest mountain viewpoints on the island.

Nevertheless, it's still a tough mountain hike by usual UK standards, with plenty of rocky terrain. The usual approach is from the Sligachan Hotel via Fionn Choire, while the narrow northwest ridge gives scrambling interest.

An excellent Munro with some breathtaking views. One of the easier of the Cuilins to tackle, with nothing too difficult to tackle and only minor scrambling.

Great munro, but you will only get good views once you have reached the saddle. Most of the way up is through empty moorlands before the ascent that gets steep in places. The last 400m up are mostly on rocks and scree, so you do need to be quite sure-footed - not just on the way up but also on the way down. Given the views, this is one you'd probably want to do on a good day. If you do happen to find yourself in a thick clag, you do want to have some navigation skills for the part up to the saddle as the trail is not always clear.
