The Protestant Grote Kerk is a three-aisled basilica, some of which dates from the late 14th century. The transept dates from the 15th century. The tower collapsed on January 28, 1797 and was never rebuilt. The church was extensively restored in 1972-1980, with important wall paintings from the 16th century being discovered. The originally much larger church was originally called Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk and was consecrated to Mary.
