There is also another boulder opposite the hiking hut on the Hubertus Bridge, already somewhat overgrown, as a memorial stone with the inscription: Forest Day 21.3.1993
The memorial stone was inaugurated in 1993 in the presence of the former Brandenburg Prime Minister, Manfred Stolpe, and other political figures, on the occasion of “Forest Day”.

At the same time, three “service trees” were planted in prepared pits under the guidance of forest master Hubert Simon from the Borgsdorf Forestry Office. The service tree (Sorbus domestica) was named Tree of the Year 1993. It is a medium-sized deciduous tree and closely related to the rowan. After the birch, this rare, almost extinct tree species was one of the first to form the basis of our forests after the Ice Age. Unfortunately, none of these service trees are left.

In Germany, “Forest Day” has so far received little attention. One reason for this is its unfavorable timing in nature. Even in early warmer years, March 21 is not yet the date on which trees begin to sprout leaves. At most, the flowers of some tree species (e.g. ash, alder) are already developed, but even early varieties such as birch are not yet sprouting leaves on March 21.
