From 1951 to 1953, an approximately 2.5 km long tunnel was dug in order to supply the dam with the water of the thrush, which normally flowed into the hills near Eupen.
The outflow of this tunnel with a diameter of approx. 2.3 meters is also known as Trou de Malbrouck.
After heavy rains, the water here shoots like a cannon!

From the beginning of the 1950s, an approximately 2.5 km long tunnel was built from the Soor to the Gileppetalsperre to protect Eupen from flooding and to be able to better serve the increased demand for drinking and service water in the Verviers area. During the construction work, a severe storm that suddenly occurred caused the water level to rise sharply. Eight workers lost their lives when the tunnel was flooded. Source: Wikipedia
