The Vogelsang garrison in Schorfheide, 60 kilometers north of Berlin, was one of the largest Soviet military bases in East Germany. After Wünsdorf and Jüterbog, the garrison was one of the largest troop bases of the Soviet armed forces in the GDR. Vogelsang was the location of the former 25th Armored Division of the Soviet Armed Forces in East Germany. Around 15,000 soldiers once lived here with their families, cut off from the outside world. The garrison comprised about 500 buildings. Since the troops left in 1994, the huge site has been lying fallow. Buildings are gradually being demolished and the site renatured. An adventure playground for sprayers, but a walk across the site is not without danger, because there are still a lot of ammunition left in the ground. Many buildings have already disappeared, a large part of the huge complex has been renatured. The missile bunkers were filled.

Some magnificent buildings are still standing. The spatial impressions and details inside and out are particularly charming. True treasures can be found among the graffiti. --- Unfortunately, the residential barracks are now all demolished. In November 2024, many houses were still standing. It's a real shame about some truly magnificent graffiti!
