In June 1945 the Büttgen church council decided to build a new stone church in Holzbüttgen. The foundation stone was consecrated and laid on June 8, 1947, and about 1 year later the new church was consecrated. Holzbüttgen was one of the Büttgen districts that had the fastest population growth. This fact and also the structural substance of the church made a new church necessary. The construction of today's church began on October 12, 1970, the foundation stone was laid on May 23, 1971 and on May 20, 1972 - Pentecost - it was assigned and given its purpose. The consecration by Auxiliary Bishop Cleven took place on June 22, 1974.
The church was not yet complete, because the associated bell tower was missing, for which the community no longer had the necessary money. Therefore, the parish council and the church council decided in 1986 to found a bell tower building association. Since 1990 the church has had an octagonal bell tower with five bells of different sizes.
