08/02/2018 - On March 25, 1897, groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the power plant. Ultimately, however, the technical equipment of the E-Werk was designed fundamentally differently than originally planned. For example, the plan to generate direct current had been abandoned. Now a Girard turbine operated a three-phase generator. This made Zwettl the first place in the entire monarchy to use this new technology (three-phase alternating current) in a power plant.
