We have never been so close to the container terminal. The loading and unloading of the container ships can be clearly observed from here.

The Kattwyk Bridges are two lift bridges in the Port of Hamburg over the Southern Elbe. The bridges connect Moorburg with the Kattwyk Peninsula to the east, which belongs to the Elbe island of Hohe Schaar and Wilhelmsburg. The older, 290 meter long bridge was originally a combined railway and road bridge, but has only been used as a road bridge since September 2020. This Kattwyk Bridge was inaugurated on March 21, 1973 and was the largest lift bridge in Germany with its 70 meter high end portals, a lifting height of 46 meters, a clearance height of 53 meters and a clearance width of 96 meters. At the time of its construction, it was the world's largest lift bridge.[1] The new Kattwyk railway bridge, which opened in 2020, is now Germany's largest lift bridge and, with a span of 130.85 m, Europe's longest lift bridge (source: Wikipedia, 2024).
