In 1684 a Wemdinger brought the miraculous image of "Our Lady", which today stands on the altar of grace, from Rome. After the construction of a chapel over the "Schillerbrünnl" in 1692, today's rococo church was built to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims between 1748 and 1782, based on the plans of the master builder of the Teutonic Order, Franz Joseph Roth.
As one of the most visited places of pilgrimage in Bavaria, the church was elevated to the status of a minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1998.
Opening times usually during the day from 8 a.m., guided tours are possible by appointment
