As early as 1125, Lauterhofen was elevated to market town status with a coat of arms and seal, but in 1513, all but the church tower was destroyed in a major fire. The town hall was rebuilt in 1593. At that time, there were no walls on the ground floor, just a single large hall. In 1755, a second assembly room was added to the ground floor. Over the years, the town hall has been altered several times.

The town hall features paintings depicting Charlemagne between Seyfried Schweppermann and Count Berengar.
