Beautiful simmering in the heart of the Hunsrück

    The Schinderhannesturm:

At the eastern corner of the former city fortifications rises a tower, which originally served as a powder magazine and prison room. As one of the few buildings he survived the great fire and the destruction of 1689th The steep, baroque conical roof and the western staircase was the tower in 1750. He gets his name after the notorious robber Johannes Bückler, called "Schinderhannes". After his capture in late February 1799 in Schneppenbach, he was taken to Simmern and imprisoned there. In the night of 19 to 20 August 1799, he managed to escape from the hitherto considered eruption-proof tower. The Schinderhannesturm today serves as an event and exhibition space.

In the former dungeon exhibits and exhibits convey vivid impressions on the subject of "Schinderhannes".

Margarete Scherschlicht (Skuptur in the pedestrian zone)

Greta (August 31, 1906 in Benzweiler, † January 24, 1994 on the forge) was the Simmerner original.

At 7:00 pm on October 7, 1951, the brakes on a truck loaded with cement failed and he raced unrestrained into the Hotel Hirsch. Margarete Scherschlicht was spilled by the cement cargo. She received a small accident pension and has become increasingly whimsical since that day.

Therefore, she was also called Zementgretchen or Gretchen.

On 26 August 1994, the Birk family had the bronze statue of cement grating erected in front of their optics shop in Simmern.
