Haurvig Rescue Station, whose building still stands west of Abelines Gård Museum, was founded in 1860 as a very modest rocket station. It was not until 1882 that a separate building for equipment was built. In 1887, the station was expanded with a larger building and a newly built lifeboat from Wert Orlogsværftet in Copenhagen. In 1933, the station, like Sønder Lyngvig Rescue Station, was closed because the tasks were combined in a new station with a motorized lifeboat in Hvide Sande. However, Haurvig was not to be completely abandoned, so it served as the rocket depot of Hvide Sande Rescue Station until 1939.

However, there were never as many rescue operations in Haurvig as in many other places along the coast, where the small rescue stations rescued several hundred sailors in many places in the decades around 1900. Haurvig Rescue Station rescued 64 shipwrecked people in 15 missions, all of whom were brought to shore using the rocket device.

Haurvig Rescue Station is now part of Abelines Gård Museum. During the museum's opening hours, you can access the rescue station, where a replica of the lifeboat is now on display. You may be visiting us in the summer when the weather is nice. And you are on holiday. But with a little imagination, it is not difficult to imagine the boat out at sea on a stormy November night 100 years ago.

On nice days the shed is open and you can take a look into the past through the open gate.
