On a small hill above Nickweiler, the Lautersberg 370 m above sea level, a peace cross was erected after the First World War by the then independent local community of Nickweiler, out of gratitude that no one had fallen from the village during the First World War. All 18 combatants returned unharmed after the 1918 armistice. The funds for the Peace Cross were raised through voluntary donations. On November 26, 1924, the monument was inaugurated. Below the Lautersberg there is a slate tunnel, which served as a shelter against aerial bombs during World War II.
