Rote Grube is located on the Erzgebirge ridge at the southern foot of the Bärenstein. It was first mentioned in 1557-1558. It is believed that the mine was built around 1520. From 1682 the mine belonged to Ferdinand Wilhelm von Lobkowicz, Lord of Castle 🏰 Eisenberg. In 1685 ore mining was resumed and a settlement was established. The Rote Grube was shut down between 1710 and 1711. In 1930 there were still 7 residents there.
