On January 17th, 1906, Count Zeppelin's second LZ2 airship took off for its second test flight over Lake Constance. Strong southwest winds seized the airship and steered it towards Kisslegg. The motors and controls failed. A free field was sighted as a landing site. The Zeppelin could not get stuck with its anchor in the frozen earth, so the stern got caught on a free-standing tree. The flight ended with a hard jerk. The crew remained unharmed.
