The castle may date back to the 14th century. Nothing is known about the builder. The first documented owner was Georg Hohenkircher zu Ternau and Aichbüchel in the 15th century. The foundation of the village of Eichbüchl in 1611 can be traced back to one of the previous owners, Katharina von Donawitz, wife of Aichbüchl. The castle got its current appearance around the turn of the century. After the turmoil of World War II, Eichbüchl Castle under Dr. Karl Renner founded the 2nd Republic in the first days of April 1945. The castle is now privately owned. [katzelsdorf.gv.at]
