Càrn Mòr Summit (Ladder Hills)

Recommended by 1 hikers

The highest point in the Ladder Hills, Càrn Mòr is not to be confused with another mountain of the same name in the Glen Dessary area. This mountain sits in the north east Cairngorms, and reaches 2,638 feet (804 m). The area was once renowned for whiskey smuggling, and indeed there are numerous smuggler’s trails throughout the hills. In nearby Glenlivet, there were reported to be 200 illegal stills before distillation was legalised in the mid-19th century.

The highest point of the area known as the Ladder Hills. Càrn Mòr is classed as a Corbett as it stands at 804m. Great views and a wild feel on a hill where you probably won't see many other walkers. The loop from Chapeltown in Glenlivet to the north is the normal ascent but some people access it from the ski centre to the southwest.

Excellent views across the highlands. The approach from the north east is most obvious.
