In 1516 the "Stuppacher Madonna" was created as a picture of Mary by Matthias Grünewald. It is one of his main works. The painting was originally made as an altarpiece for a chapel in Aschaffenburg. From there it came into the possession of the Teutonic Order as early as 1532.
Since this was dissolved, the picture fell into the hands of the pastor and Teutonic order priest Balthasar Blumhofer, who had the chapel built especially for this painting in 1812.
The chapel is open all year round every day until 6.30 p.m.
