In 1895, two murders occurred at this point. The 17-year-old day laborer August Arnold first killed the farmer Wilhelm Mehl with more than 40 knife wounds in order to rob him. The second victim, 18-year-old Wilhelm Hilpert, was probably a witness to the crime and was also murdered by Arnold, with a stab in the neck. The crime was cleared up two days later.
